How does the ownership of objects found on one’s property work in Italy?

Yes, according to Italian law, any cultural object or real estate fortuitously found even in a private property belongs to the state. To encourage the communication of discoveries, however, a “premio di ritrovamento” is expected: there is the right to receive a money reward for returning the item to the state, if some conditions are respected.
